December Events: David Mann Chopper Fest and Progressive International Motorcycle Show

It’s December, the cold has set in and the days are getting shorter which means less riding for most.  Still there is a lot of events happening this weekend out west where the weather is chilly but not unbearable.  First, The Progressive International Motorcycle show is in Long Beach this weekend running Dec. 6-8th, featuring mostly new bikes, major parts vendors, seminars, and the J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder competition.  Prices for the show are $15 at the door for an Adult but you can use code EM14GO and save $2 off admission.  If you’re looking to check out the 2014 Harley’s and the newest latest parts for your bagger then this is the show to go to.

If you are looking for something with an artistic flare and old school style, The David Mann Chopper Fest is Sunday Dec. 8th at the Ventura County Fairgrounds from 8 am – 4 pm and is celebrating their 10th Anniversary.  With a killer builder lineup I’m sure the custom cycles and artwork will be pleasing to the eye.  The festival started as a tribute to David Mann featuring an art display; all brand antique and custom bike show; new and used parts swap meet; custom bike builder displays; live blues and rock bands; vendors; beer and food.  General admission is $15, Military with ID $10, kids 12 & under $5.

There will also be a pre-party for the Chopper Fest at the Tavern on Saturday in Ventura from 7 pm – 2 am.  They will have giveaways, blues bands, and food and drink deals.  Sounds like a good way to get the party started!  All info is on the flyer below.   Hope to see you guys out there!

Let the Search Begin

The time is now to get your projects finished before all the bike rallies and runs begin.  A perfect place to do this is to find your local bike night or swap meet.  You can get great deals on all kinds of parts, clothing, gloves, helmets and custom work.  If you live in and around the Southern California area come down to the So Cal Cycle Swap Meet in Long Beach, CA.  It’s one of the biggest shows around that only happens once a month usually around the 24th and has over 500 vendors.  There is a ton of goodies to look at and a ton of used parts for all model bikes and years.  A lot of really good vintage parts for those panheads and shovels.

I have scored numerous times just searching out a couple items I needed and didn’t want to pay full retail at the dealer.  You would be surprised what you can find at places like this and it’s always nice to meet new friends and get ideas for your next project.  One of my favorite things to do is look around the bike corral to check out what others have done and see some fantastic looking bikes.  Bike Corral parking is free with an entrance fee of $9.  All others park in the general parking and the cost is $10 per person.  It’s a great event and it looks like a it’s going to be a perfect Spring weather.  The next event will be held this weekend on Sunday the 24th, I hope to see you down there and let the search begin.

Happy picking!
